Matt has the combination of strong operational experience with an extensive M&A background. He has worked for a wide array of organizations ranging from multi-billion dollar NYSE companies to start-up operations. Matt has also owned and operated a number of small businesses in the services, food and distribution industries. With ownership experience, he fully understands the daily pressures of being a business owner as well as the challenges of selling your business. His entrepreneurial spirit combined with practical experience brings a unique perspective to Silverstone clients.
Prior to joining Silverstone, Matt was the Vice President of Unifund Government Services. Unifund is one of the nation’s leading buyers of distressed consumer debt. Matt had responsibility for all aspects of the government services division including operations, accounting, proposal preparation, and business development. He grew the start-up division from one pilot project to over 25 new clients.
Before Unifund, Matt was a Managing Director at Concordia Financial Group which is a boutique investment banking firm with offices in Philadelphia and Cincinnati. Matt advised on transactions in the healthcare, services, distribution, manufacturing and food industries. In addition, he assisted corporate executives, business owners and investors in strategic planning, forecasting and financial management. While at Concordia, after assisting in the acquisition of certain cemetery assets out of bankruptcy, Matt was the interim COO of Summerfield, LLC. Matt created an infrastructure including hiring accounting and administrative staff; grew the sales team from 25 to 125 persons; and led the management team who supervised more than 350 employees. He ultimately assisted in the sale of the company for a significant gain.
Matt was a Senior Director of Corporate Development at Republic Services, Inc (NYSE: RSG). Republic is a multi-billion dollar solid waste collection and disposal company that grew exponentially through acquisitions. While at Republic, Matt completed over 50 transactions with values ranging up to $40mm, in addition to being in charge of divesting non-core operations.
Matt was the Senior Manager of Corporate Development at the Loewen Group International, a multi-billion dollar NYSE company. Loewen was a consolidator of funeral homes and cemeteries in North America. While at Loewen, Matt completed over 75 transactions. In addition, he built the cemetery corporate development department from 2 to 14 people and developed a system to enabling the department to close a high volume of deals.
Matt is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a BA in Economics and a minor in Business Administration. Matt also holds an MBA degree from Miami University where he also served as a Graduate Assistant. He is also active in the community. He was on the Board of Trustees for Artserve in Ft. Lauderdale; Chairman of the Kilgour Design and Renovation Committee; President, Athletic Director and Secretary of Kilgour Sports Boosters; and Disaster Team Leader for American Red Cross.
